About Us

What is Islamic Legacy?

Islamic Legacy is a project that aims to take Muslims on a journey through time, studying the history of Muslims, including the People of the book (Jews and Christians), from an Islamic as well as a contemporary point of view.

The project is a non-profit venture managed by a group of volunteers, most of who have many years of experience in da'wah programs in the West. Islamic Legacy is part of the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah Association of Australia.

The Name and Logo

Legacy by definition is something handed down from a predecessor. Muslims today have inherited the mantle of Islam from their forefathers. We reap the rewards of their past successes, but we also bear the consequences of their mistakes. We too will pass on our legacy to our descendants. The actions we take today will influence the state of the Ummah tomorrow.

Modern history is taught from a European or Euro-centric perspective. The Islamic Legacy project will present history from an Islamic or Muslim-centric perspective. Thus, the term ‘Islamic' is used in the title of this project.

The logo depicts a ship, an Ottoman ship to be precise. The choice of a ship serves a dual purpose. Given we are embarking on a journey, a ship makes sense in this context. In addition, the choice of a historical artifact from Muslim history complements the overall intent of the project.

Why have Islamic Legacy?

Alhamdulillah, in recent times the English-speaking Muslim community has been able to access Islamic knowledge pertaining to a wide range of topics. However, the History of Islam has been relatively neglected leaving a noticeable gap in mainstream Islamic knowledge. Today, the Ummah of Muhammad is desperately in need of guidance and wisdom in addressing real-world matters. History is a treasure chest overflowing with lessons and morals and yet many Muslims today remain largely ignorant of this field of study.

Muslims have also become a political scapegoat for many of governments in the West. We are routinely accused of being intolerant, backward and barbaric and our history has been distorted accordingly. As a result, there is also a prevailing sense of helplessness where many of us believe that the status quo is perpetual. Such negativity is taking a toll on Muslim youth who are beginning to feel ashamed of their Islamic identity.

Islamic Legacy project aims to address this gap in the knowledge of mainstream Muslim society. And further, to set the record straight by revealing the truth about the History of Islam.

Method of Delivery

Material produced by Islamic Legacy is delivered in the form of presentations and intensive courses. The subject matter will be insha'Allaah supplemented with DVDs and podcasts for online listening.

Insha'Allah you will find our presentations professional, educational, entertaining and inspirational. They are enhanced with powerful visual images such as animated maps and battle sequences as well as rich sounds that bring historic moments to life.

Each presentation will be a unique experience - an audio-visual sensory feast. Prepare to take a journey through history!

Areas of Interest

Islamic Legacy will be covering topic areas typically unavailable from mainstream da'wah programmes. These will include:

  • Islamic civilizations
  • Epic battles
  • Great figures and personalities
  • Modern Day conflict
  • History of the ‘People of the Book' (Jews and Christians)

Each topic area will be analysed from an Islamic perspective and lessons will be drawn that can be applied to our situation today.

Our sources:

Islamic Legacy relies primarily on the most authoritative texts on Islamic history. These include the works of At Tabari, Ibn Kathir, and Ibn Athir to name a few. However, Islamic Legacy also draws on texts by certain non-Muslim scholars that have devoted their lives to researching various aspects of Muslim history. All material is overseen by Sheikhs based locally and overseas.

And Finally....

The primary purpose of the Islamic Legacy project is to educate Muslims towards a broader understanding of their religion so they can contribute more positively to society. We want to empower Muslims to address today's challenges within a broader historical perspective and to act positively and practically for the benefit of the Ummah.
